Marcel

Standing out in a crowd of thousands is not easy to do. That is why Marcel Luske is such a rare commodity in the world of poker. He is often thought to be the series clown and may not take the game seriously. Well that is where most would be wrong. He is as serious a poker player as one can be and is one of the top contenders in the game to this day.

Luske was a salesman until 2003 when he decided that poker was his true passion. Turning to this passion meant that he would be in the field with thousands of other standout players and he would have to outlast them all. From this he developed his trademark style.

First and most noticeable is the fact that he wears his sunglasses upside down. This is something that he has done since his early playing days. There is no official record on why he does this. Many of the veterans of the game find this to be foolish behavior and dismiss him as a clown.

Others consider this to be a maneuver to throw off the opponents. No matter which is true, he is successful nonetheless. Luske is also known for singing while playing. Much to the dismay of the players around him he will often break into song and continue to sing while the hand is carried out.

Lastly, Luske is known for always wearing a suit when he is playing. Gone are the days when suits were common place and most of the players dress very casually.

All of this combined with the style that can hardly be beat by a player in the world of poker today. While Luske has never managed to capture a bracelet or a World Series of Poker Main Event win, he is still considered a force to be reckoned with when he sits down to the table. Twice Luske has finished in the Top 20 in the World Series of Poker main event and has finished in the money 20 times since starting his poker career.

He is also a fixture all over Europe where he plays in numerous tournaments and cash games.

Luske has also turned his attention to mentoring. Thanks to his teachings David Williams was the runner up for the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event. Other well known students include Kirill Gerasimov, a runner up to the season one World Poker Tour championship.

Luske remains active in several television shows focused on poker, including one where he and others teach poker to various celebrities and then have them face off in the end. He's also appeared in the Euro Pokerstars Cash game with fellow dutchman Lex Veldhuis.

Since playing in the tournaments Luske has become known as “The Flying Dutchman” and currently resides in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, when he's not on tour...
